Panaeus vannamei aka the white shrimp is a commercial food grade shrimp that you will see for sale in the supermarkets. They are reared from USDA brood stock that are disease and pathogen free. In the wild these shrimp are found though out the oceans of the world. They are the staple diet of all marine species at different stages of growth. Full grown the shrimp can reach 8" .The farm is a commercial aqua culture facility farming shrimp for 14 years. Adult Panaeus vannamei are bred in large holding tanks then the eggs are collected and hatched and move into a 800 gallon nauplii grow out tanks.
In the next 10 days the nauplii will molt into different stages of nauplii then zoea then mysis then will settle into PL1 (post larvae day one) In these ten days they will feast on live phytoplankton and encapsulated diets loaded with nutrition. After this they become benthic and are extremely tiny. The perfect food for seahorse fry. We grow the PL's out to the PL3 stage then move them to 8,000 gallon grow out tanks where we grow them out on highly nutritious diets loaded with hufas.(highly unsaturated fatty acids) When the shrimp reach PL8 they are about 1/8" long and the width of a piece of string. We continue growing the PL's into larger sizes all the way up to full 7" breeders to start the cycle over again. Along the way we sell different sizes to the aquarium industry that is the whole of our business. While sizes under 1" are good for different size sea horses and sea dragons larger sizes are good for sharks, rays, eels, cephalopods and many other marine animals.
The shrimp we sell are the finest most nutritious shrimp available to the aquarist today. We are the only farm in the USA that grows this shrimp for the aquarium industry.
